Pressure Vacuum Relief Valve Tank Breather Valve

Pressure Vacuum Relief Valve Tank Breather Valve

The pressure/vacuum relief valve is a weight-loaded tank breather designed for atmospheric and low-pressure storage tanks. Mounted on the tank roof, it automatically vents overpressure to atmosphere and admits air under vacuum, protecting tanks from deformation or collapse while minimising vapour emissions and evaporation loss of stored product.

Pressure Vacuum Relief Valve Tank Breather Valve

Working principle:

- Purely mechanical, weight-operated — no external power, air supply or controller required

- Pressure pallet lifts when tank pressure exceeds +15 mbar(g); vacuum pallet opens at −3 mbar(g) to admit air

- Closed bonnet, full-nozzle flow path, bolted top cap for easy on-roof maintenance

Unique design of Pressure / Vacuum Relief Valve (safety type)

  • Weight-Loaded, Mechanical — Gravity-loaded design with no external power or actuator; purely mechanical operation, dependable set pressure for continuous tank service.
  • Tank Overpressure & Vacuum Protection — Relieves at +15 mbar(g) and admits air at −3 mbar(g), keeping the tank safely inside its +20 / −4 mbar(g) design envelope and avoiding deformation or collapse.
  • Low Emissions & Vapour Loss — A tight metal seat and close bonnet minimise routine venting, cutting both environmental emissions and evaporation loss of stored product.
  • NACE & Ex-Rated — NACE MR-0103 compliant, Class I Zone 2 IIA T3 for hazardous area installation; ASME stamped, pressure parts certified to EN 10204 3.1.

  • Gasoline Storage Tank Pressure Protection
Installed on the roof of atmospheric gasoline storage tanks under nitrogen blanketing. Relieves overpressure during filling, thermal expansion and blanketing-regulator failure, and admits air during pump-out and thermal contraction.

    Operating Conditions: Set pressure +15 mbar(g) / set vacuum -3 mbar(g); tank design limit +20 / -4 mbar(g); required outbreathing 4709.2 Nm³/h, inbreathing 2075.7 Nm³/h; gasoline vapour media; operating pressure 0.003 – 0.012 barg; WCB body with 316 SS trim, NACE MR-0103 wetted parts.

  • Kerosene & Diesel Storage Tanks
Applied to kerosene and diesel tank farms where operating temperature is higher. The closed-bonnet weight-loaded design handles both thermal breathing and pump-out demands while reducing evaporation loss.

Operating Conditions: Design temperature extended to +130°C; operating temperature up to 50°C (kerosene) / 95°C (diesel); inbreathing demand up to 2216.5 Nm³/h; media densities 762 – 848 kg/m³; 8" / 10" ASME Cl150 RF flanged roof installation.

  • Tank Farms & Loading Terminals
Used in bulk storage tank farms, truck/rail loading gantries and marine terminals where tanks are filled and emptied continuously. Protects tanks from deformation, vacuum collapse and evaporative loss.

Operating Conditions: Frequent filling / pump-out cycles; blanketing regulator failure open as governing outbreathing case (4709.2 Nm³/h); direct vent to atmosphere with zero back pressure; bolted top cap for on-roof maintenance; test gag supplied on every unit.

  • Nitrogen-Blanketed Atmospheric Tanks
Installed as the independent overpressure / over-vacuum safety device on nitrogen-blanketed tanks. Normal pressure control is handled by the blanketing system; this PVRV acts only as the final relief protection.

Operating Conditions: Operating pressure 0.003 / 0.0075 / 0.012 barg (min / normal / max); set points below tank design +20 / -4 mbar(g); purely mechanical — no external power, air supply or actuator; suitable for continuous unmanned tank service.

  • Hazardous Area Tank Protection
Engineered for refinery and storage-area installations classified as hazardous. The all-mechanical weight-loaded valve requires no electrical supply and carries the required area classification and sour-service certification.

Operating Conditions: Class I Zone 2 IIA T3 area rating; NACE MR-0103 sour-service wet parts with hardness test; ASME stamp required; pressure parts certified EN 10204 3.1; any electrical accessory must separately meet the area rating.

  • Internal Floating-Roof (IFR) Tanks
Used on internal floating-roof tanks with aluminium full-contact seals. The roof-mounted breather controls the vapour space pressure above the floating roof during liquid rise, vapour expansion and withdrawal.

Operating Conditions: Tank capacity around 3,000 – 3,500 m³, diameter 19,000 mm; conical roof slope 1:100; tank roof nozzle N7 connection; ambient temperature -13°C to +40°C; inlet pressure drop limited to ≤ 3% of set pressure.
